Delicious Coffee Cocktail Recipes You'll Love

When you talk about coffee cocktails you can mean a few different things, firstly a hot alcoholic coffee drink, secondly you could mean a cold cocktail that includes coffee as one of it’s ingredients or finally you could mean a cocktail made using a coffee liqueur.

On this page I’m going to cover cocktails that include coffee in their ingredients as well as cocktails made with coffee liqueur, if you’re after an alcohol spiced coffee then you’ll want to check out - Liqueur Coffee Recipes.

Espresso Martinis

A Variety of Coffee Cocktails with the Same Name!

When I think of an Espresso Martini I usually think of something like the first recipe I've found here for you -

Espresso Martini #1

1 1/2 oz Kahlua (of any coffee liqueur it's just that Kahlua is my coffee liqueur of choice)

1 oz vodka

1 oz espresso

Pop all of these ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain the liquid into a chilled martini glass to serve and if you have any a couple of coffee beans make a lovely garnish.

The version that I prefer is very similar, but also adds some chocolate flavor, have a look -

Espresso Martini #2

1 1/2 oz vodka

3/4 oz Kahlua

1/4 oz creme de cacao

1 oz cold espresso

As with the first recipe you pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well before straining into a martini glass to serve. Chocolate coffee beans are a delicious garnish for this version of the Espresso Martini.

This next version uses rum which is the first time I’ve seen an Espresso Martini containing this spirit –

Espresso Martini #3

2 oz vanilla rum

1 3/4 oz Kahlua

1 1/2 oz strong black coffee, chilled

Pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain the liquid into a martini glass to serve.

Coffee-tini Glass & Recipe

This martini glass is from the Lolita Love My Martini Collection of glasses. What makes the Lolita Martini glasses special is that they have a recipe on the base of every hand painted glass.

This glass comes in a gift box making it a great gift idea that any coffee cocktail lover is sure to enjoy.

Coffee Cocktails with Espresso & Coffee Liqueur

Delicious Caffeinated & Alcoholic Drinks to Enjoy!

Along with the Espresso Martinis above there are a number of other cocktails that include not just chilled coffee, but a delicious coffee liqueur as well. My personal favourite coffee liqueur is Kahlua, but you can use any coffee liqueur that you like in these recipes.

Chocolate Mocha Lattetini

This is a really delicious coffee cocktail that can be adapted to use chocolate milk instead of regular milk and chocolate syrup! You will need -

2 oz espresso, chilled of course

4 oz milk

3 tbsp chocolate syrup

2 oz Kahlua

Basically just pour all of the ingredients into a glass filled with ice and mix together, it's really simple and quite an addiction so be warned just one of these isn't always enough!

Coconut Coffee Delight

If you love Malibu then this is the coffee cocktail for you, you'll need the following -

2 oz Malibu

1/2 oz espresso

1/2 oz Kahlua

1/2 oz Baileys

Pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker along with ice and give it a good shake. Next strain it into an old fashioned glass to serve.

Coffee Cocktails Made With Espresso

These coffee cocktails get their coffee flavor from espresso as opposed to any coffee liqueur and there's quite a few to choose from starting with one called The Truffle (although I prefer the Raspberry Truffle which contains Kahlua instead of espresso and is further down the page.

The Truffle

1 oz Frangelico

1 oz vodka

3/4 oz espresso, chilled

To make this cocktail you simply place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and strain into a martini glass to serve.

The Wake Up Call

I think this cocktail gets it's name because it combines the coffee with the taste of orange (found in the triple sec) which is supposed to represent your morning orange juice. I haven't actually tried this one yet as I can't get my head around triple sec and milk although it is supposed to be very nice.

2 oz vodka

1 oz coffee

1/2 oz triple sec

1 oz milk

To make this cocktail you simply place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. To serve you strain the liquid into a wine glass and for a garnish drop a couple of coffee beans into the glass too.

Espresso Summer

This is a gin cocktail which also embraces one of my favorite berries - blackberries. Let's look at how to make it -

1 oz espresso

1 1/2 oz gin

4 blackberries

1/4 oz simple syrup

1/2 oz orange juice

Firstly muddle the blackberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker, next add all of the remaining ingredients along with some ice. Shake really well before straining into an old fashioned glass over ice to serve.

How to Make Simple Syrup

Simple Syrup is an ingredient in many different cocktails and it's really simple to make. Basically you just take equal quantities of water and sugar and heat them over a low heat stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow the simple syrup to cool and it's ready to help you make delicious cocktails such as the Espresso Summer.

Bronx Bomber

This coffee cocktail has the infamous absinthe in it and I have to confess that I've never tried the 'green fairy' as absinthe is sometimes referred to so I have no idea what this one tastes like, but if you have a bottle of absinthe you might like to give it a go.

Double shot of espresso

1/8 oz absinthe

1 1/2 oz gin

Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. To serve strain into an old fashioned glass.

Tiramisu-Tini

This is a coffee cocktail that is on my must make list (just as soon as I reach my goal weight, until then ice cream is off the table!) as I think it sounds absolutely delicious, just like a liquid version of the delicious Italian dessert.

3-5 oz vanilla ice cream

2 ladyfinger cookies

Dash of cocoa powder

Double shot of espresso

Just pop all of the ingredients into a blender and blend for 20 seconds - voila! I'm not sure what type of glass would suit this cocktail, I'd probably serve it in a martini glass.

Cocktails That Contain Coffee Liqueurs

Kahlua Cocktails

I'm calling these my Kahlua cocktails, but you can substitute any coffee liqueur you like for the Kahlua - it's just my preference. In fact my late dog was named Kahlua because when I got her as a puppy it was raining and her wet fur smelt like coffee! Anyway on with the cocktails and we're starting with an absolutely delicious one.

Raspberry Truffle

1 oz vodka

3/4 oz Kahlua

3/4 oz raspberry liqueur

Whipped cream and grated chocolate to serve

Simply combine the vodka, Kahlua and raspberry liqueur in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain the cocktail into a Champagne flute and top with whipped cream and grated chocolate - this always impresses guests if you serve it after dinner.

Black Russian

The classic coffee liqueur cocktail is of course the Black Russian and it's offspring - the Tall Black Russian and the White Russian.

A classic Black Russian is made with the following ingredients -

1 1/2 oz vodka

1/2 oz Kahlua

Simply combine the two ingredients together in a glass with ice, stir and serve - very simple.

To change this recipe to a Tall Black Russian you'd top the glass up with cola (this is often mistakenly referred to as a Black Russian). If a White Russian is what you prefer then you'll want to top the basic recipe up with half and half - some people say it should be cream and some say it should be milk, but cream is too thick and milk just isn't luxurious enough!

Black Sombrero

1 1/2 oz tequila

1/2 oz Kahlua

2 oz soda water

Lime wedge for garnish

Combine the tequila and Kahlua in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an old fashioned glass and top up with the soda water, pop in the lime wedge and it's ready to serve.

Frostini

I love this cocktail and I usually have to mix at least a few of these up every time I have a cocktail party - this or my other version where I simply add one part creme de cacao to the other ingredients.

1 part Baileys

1 part Kahlua

1/4 part peppermint schnapps

Pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and give it a good shake before straining into a martini glass to serve. If you grow mint in your garden then a small sprig makes a lovely garnish.

There are so many more cocktail recipes I could include, but we're running out of space on the screen! If you do enjoy a cocktail or two then I invite you to visit my cocktail lounge.
